Camping, Hiking, Paddling — Bear Head Lake State Park, MN

Category: Camping, Hiking, Paddling

Thu - SunOct 3 - Oct 62019
  • Estimated Cost: $15
  • Deposit: $15
  • Max Trip Size: 23 people
Description:

Let’s visit Bear Head Lake State Park on the first weekend of October. I have reserved the one and only Group Camp from Thursday to Sunday, Oct. 3-6. Our site is marked “G1” on the PDF map you can download from the park’s website:

https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00109#homepage

The park is roughly 4 hours from the Twin Cities.

Hiking: The park has 14 miles of hiking trails.

Paddling: On the lake within the park. We should be able to put-in/take-out right from the group camp. Boat rental MAY be available – we’ll have to check with the office closer to the date.

Socializing: Boathouse Brew Pub and Restaurant (Ely, MN) https://www.boathousebrewpub.com

Other activities: Soudan Underground Mine State Park https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/lake_vermilion_soudan/tours.html; International Wolf Center, Ely https://www.wolf.org/visit/hours-fees-programs/

Meals: On your own, but we can plan to a potluck one night if there is interest. I plan to bring a stove, water jug, and dishwashing station/equipment.

Cost: $15/person (covers 3 nights camping and firewood costs)

I will provide everyone access to a Google spreadsheet for listing participant emails and phone numbers, and arranging carpools.

You must be a member of Minnesota Rovers to go on this trip (see https://mnrovers.org/sign-up/ ).

Coordinator(s):
