A taste of the BWCA in our own backyard (at least for us Twin Cities people)! Lebanon Hills Regional Park has a nice canoe route that includes about 8 lakes and several portages. Canoe rentals are available at the launch area, and it is highly recommended that you reserve a canoe ahead of time. Please reserve the “Premium Portaging” canoes, which are lightweight for portaging. They rent for $30 for 4 hours (the cost for the event is listed as $15 assuming 2 people per canoe). If you have your own canoe, you can bring it instead of renting one. If you are coming on your own, please let me know when you sign up and I will pair you up with someone to rent a canoe. Please arrive by 9:00 if you are renting a canoe. Meet at the Schulze boat launch where the canoes are rented. This is right by the Visitor Center, 860 Cliff Rd, Eagan, MN.
We will start by paddling across Schulze Lake, then portage to the next lake. This first portage is the longest at about 1/3 mi. This is where you will be happy to have the lightweight canoes! Part of our route is a loop. We will stop halfway through the trip at Jensen Lake to have lunch. Please pack your own lunch in a daypack so you can portage it. We end by repeating the portage back to Schulze Lake.
Sunscreen, insect repellent, and rain gear are all recommended.
Let me know if you have any questions and let me know if you want to join us!
