Car Camping to Flour Lake

Sun - ThuAug 26 - Aug 302012
  • Estimated Cost: $75
  • Max Trip Size: 4 people
Description:

Flour Lake Forest Service Campground borders the BWCA and is near hiking, kayaking / canoeing, mountain biking, fishing, or just sitting and watching the clouds go by.

Primary goal for me on this trip is photography and research for some writing. I expect to do short day trips via kayak, perhaps visiting Rose Falls/Stairway Portage and some old logging camp areas. Since it is a challenge to portage with a kayak, I am planning as few portages as possible. I also plan some light hiking. If anyone wishes to join me for all or part of my time up there, it would be an opportunity to enjoy some of the BWCAW without the full wilderness challenge. Also a good time to try out new gear. |Flour Lake|

Costs: I’ve reserved a large site. You will probably be able to share it, but I’m not sure how many tents it will accommodate. If you need your own site, they are $18 per night. Several sites are “walk-in” (not reservable ahead of time). You’ll need to provide your own food and may share transportation if that works out. There is an outfitter and grocery about a mile from the campground, per recreation.gov.

It is unusual for me to be able to attend Rover meetings due to other obligations on Tuesday evenings so I may not be able to attend a meeting to describe this trip.

Estimated cost: $75-$100. Max trip size: 4.
