Compass and Map Reading in the Field

Sun, 5:00amOct 262014
Description:

Want to stay found on and off the trail in a park or in the wilderness? Want to get better at reading maps and a compass? Join us for a fun event at the close by Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Minnesota Orienteering Club designed field courses there to help us learn and practice how maps translate on the ground. We’ll have topological maps and compasses to use, or bring your own compass that has been lying underused in the closet. Rover Don, who will show us how to use map and compass in various ways has got decades of outdoor and wilderness experience.

For carpooling information e-mail us or meet at Lake Elmo Park Reserve Main Office at 2:00 p.m. Park requires vehicle permit. This is a day trip, you do not need to be a member to join us!

Estimated cost: share of gas & permit.
