Enjoy the fresh snow on groomed trails around Fort Snelling’s Pike Island on a night ski. Meet in the parking lot by the welcome center (this is at the far end of the park) and we will head out on the trails. There are 1, 2, and 3 mile loops so we can split up to ski the length one desires. This is classic skiing only.
Meet at 6 pm for brief introductions and then we will take off. We can head off in groups to accommodate all ski levels. The only “hill” is the little bridge to get to the island, a ten foot rise. There is an opportunity to gather after you finish your ski at Wondering Leaf Brewing so we will not need to wait for skiers doing longer skis to depart to regroup at Wondering Leaf.
A state park pass is required to enter the park, one permit per vehicle. Minnesota Ski Pass required for trail use. Passes must be purchased in advance on line at the park website. There are no heated bathrooms at this time of day, but a porta-potty is by parking lot.
You can usually ski by ambient light at night with new snow pack, but bring a flashlight, preferably head lamp, for the trail just in case you need it. It is supposed to be around 10F, so layer for warmth.
park location: 101 Snelling Lake Rd, St Paul, MN 55111, visitor welcome center is way at the end.
Wondering Leaf is here: 2463 7th St W, St Paul, MN 55116, about 5-10 minutes from park in Sibley Plaza on West Seventh. By the time we get there, the food truck may have closed. The adjacent Soul Loa closes at 9, so that should still be open.
