Culture, Biology, Ecology, and Camping in Western MN

Fri - SunOct 4 - Oct 62013
  • Estimated Cost: $40
  • Deposit: $20
  • Max Trip Size: 5 people
Description:

Each year, communities in western MN in the Upper Minnesota River Valley have an art crawl, the Arts Meander, where artists display their creations at their studios and in downtown displays. This year is special as it’s the tenth anniversary of the art crawl. The communities add music and pomp and by golly, we then have culture. Being Rovers, we are interspersing that event with timely birding, hiking and camping at Laq qui Parle State Park-cabin camping that is. We will dovetail our early morning & evening bird watching adventures with hiking and art viewing at various points between Granite Falls & Ortonville on Saturday & Sunday.

There are five miles of hiking trails in the State Park & we’ll take a short hike to the largest Cottonwood tree in Minnesota. We might also spice it up with some canoeing or kayaking on the Minnesota River, if the weather seems right.

We’ll stay in a rustic camper cabin with sweeping views of the prairie & minnesota river valley. Meals will be eaten out at local restaurants. Join us as we explore all the wonders & beauty of western MN, the Upper MN River Valley AND get some holiday shopping done early!

Estimated cost: $40 not including art purchases, gas or meals eaten out. Deposit: $20. Max trip size: 5.
