This part of Minnesota was not covered by ice during the last ice age and exhibits very different terrain and geology from the northern part of the state. From a biker’s perspective, this means that there are serious hills and great views.
We will park late morning on Fri at the Great River Bluffs State Park (cars need a permit) and then bike about 25 mi along lightly trafficked roads, through La Crescent, and finally to our campsite near Brownsville along the Mississippi.
On Sat we will bike about 35 mi through Hokah and Houston to our campsite a few miles past Houston. On Sun we bike roughly 40 mi, partly on the Root River Trail, back to Great River Bluffs State Park. Food will be a mix of restaurant and carried food. There is no support vehicle. Except for 1 mi of hardpacked dirt the roads are paved. It should be a beautiful ride.
