Registration for the Extravaganza has begun! The event runs from Thursday, 9/23 late afternoon until Sunday, 9/26 afternoon at Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park near Preston, MN. The Extravaganza is an opportunity for non-members or newer members to learn more about the club as they mingle with seasoned MN Rover members! There will be organized activities throughout the weekend. The Extravaganza is one of the few overnight trips non-members can attend, so invite your outdoor-loving family and friends to experience all the fun of a Rovers weekend!
Three nights of camping are available (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights), as well as Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. Choose the schedule that works for you. All meals besides Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast are “on your own.” As always, all activities are free. The online registration link and the costs are below.
Activities (such as hiking, biking, paddling, rock climbing, stargazing, winery/brewery visit, and birding or mushroom hikes) will be scheduled throughout the weekend. Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park is located near the Root River State Water Trail, the Root River State Trail, and the towns of Lanesboro, Fountain, and Preston. More information about the Lanesboro area is available here and here. If you would like to coordinate an activity, contact Stacey ([email protected]) or Karen ([email protected]).
We are looking for a couple of people to organize Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. If preparing meals for large numbers of people is your passion, this is your opportunity to be creative and show what you can serve for meals using a camp stove. (We will have a shelter with lights and electric outlets.) Other volunteers will help you prepare the meals, so you won’t be doing it solo! We are also looking for someone to haul a trailer with the Rover kayaks and canoes. The Extravaganza fee will be refunded for these three volunteer positions. (The trailer hauler will also receive mileage.)
Costs:
- Camping Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, plus dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday ($25)
- Camping Friday and Saturday night, plus dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday ($25)
- Camping Saturday night, plus dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday ($20)
- Dinner on Saturday; no camping ($10)
- Breakfast on Sunday; no camping or Saturday meal ($5)
- Friday night camping only; no meals ($5)
Kids camp free if they share a tent with parents, and ages 5–17 pay half cost meals ($5 dinner and $2.50 for breakfast).
A limited number of reduced-cost scholarships are available. If the cost will keep you from attending, please contact Stacey ([email protected]) or Karen ([email protected]). Register by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15th. A full refund will be issued if you cancel by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15th. No refunds after that date.
If you want to be added to the waitlist, contact Stacey Grimes ([email protected]) or Karen Parker ([email protected]). If a space becomes available, you will be contacted so that you can register.
Watch this page for any updates. For those who have registered and paid for the event, information will also be emailed to you, as well as contacts for organizing your own carpooling if interested.
