Forest Fire Prevention

Fri - SunApr 20 - Apr 222012
  • Max Trip Size: 8 people
Description:

I am looking for people willing to help with storm damage clean up. In exchange for a few hours of work you get a full weekend to play outside. Last year straight line winds damaged much of Burnett County including my property. I have had some of the work done but still have work left to do. The plan is to work Satruday morning until early afternoon. We won’t be able to get all of the clean up done, I am just hoping to reduce some of the fire danger. I have a logger that will come and remove the logs but I am currently more concerned with collecting the brush. I had initially planned to end the night with a big bonfire but there are emergency burning restrictions in effect and no burning, fireworks or even smoking outdoors is allowed.

So here is the plan: Feel free to arrive Friday after 7:00 p.m. or Saturday morning and stay until Sunday. I live near the Gandy Dancer bike trail and there are many lakes and rivers in the area if you prefer to paddle. We can always find a place to hike and we would also be close to Crex Meadows which is very active this time of year. People are welcome for any part of or all of the weekend. Bring your camping gear and I’ll find space for you. There is room in the cabin for a few people. I will provide food and beverages.

Update: Due to the anticipated cold weather at night I have decided to find a cabin/hotel room for the people who come to help. Cost is still free!

Estimated cost: $0. Max trip size: 8-10.
