Anyone up for some winter forest bathing? I’m training to be a certified Forest Therapy Guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides & Programs (ANFT) and need to facilitate some guided forest therapy walks in the coming months. If you’re not familiar with forest bathing, don’t worry, it doesn’t involve a bathtub! Forest bathing or Shinrin-yoku is a nature experience facilitated with a trained guideAfter a brief grounding exercise to help open our senses, I’ll be offering several invitations to help you take in and connect with our surroundings. We’ll be walking at a slow pace covering only .5 miles in about 1.5-2 hours. At the end of the walk, we’ll close with a tea ceremony, snacks and conversation. Forest bathing can be a relaxing experience that helps bring focus to the present moment and has many health benefits in addition to deepening a connection with nature.
I’d like to keep this walk to adults only and am limiting it to eight people. We’ll meet just inside the Visitor Center by the reptile habitats before heading out at 1 PM sharp. Please DRESS WARM and in layers as this is not a hike and there will be a lot of standing in one place or meandering at a slow, leisurely pace. I’d also appreciate it if you would fill out an evaluation at the end of the walk. Feel free to contact me with questions or if you’d like to discuss organizing a forest bathing walk with a group.
