Let’s hike some of the park’s 20 miles of hiking trails. The trails traverse remnant prairies, wind down deep ravines, and rise up to the grassy ridge tops and bluffs overlooking the scenic St. Croix River. The visitor center contains modern restrooms and water. We’ll meet at 3:00 p.m. in the parking lot at the very end of the park road by the picnic area (you’ll pass several parking areas on your way to this parking area). Bring water and snacks and wear sturdy boots. We’ll hike rain or shine. Optional dinner afterward in the village of Afton. State park admission fee $5/day or $25/year per vehicle.
Directions to Afton State Park: Take I-94 nine miles east of St. Paul, then seven miles south on State Highway 95, then three miles east on County Rd 20. You can just follow the State Park road signs from I-94.
