Spring wildflowers have started to bloom at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, famous for a spectacular wildflower season. What better time to go!?
Join me for an 8-mile hike on the woodland trails of Nerstrand. We will pause to view the wildflowers and of course to check out the waterfalls. Presently the southern trails are closed due to water on the trail but the northern section of the park, entirely woodland with a lot of elevation changes, is great for hiking.
Carpoolers can meet at REI Bloomington (the far NE corner of the parking lot) at 8:45 AM and we can all meet at the park at 10:00 AM. Anyone who wishes to make other arrangements can certainly do so.
Following the hike, we can stop at the Depot Bar & Grill in Faribault for eats, drinks and socializing.
A Minnesota State Parks vehicle permit is required and available for purchase at the park. Park address is 9700 170th Street East, Nerstrand, MN 55053
Recommend drinking water, footwear, clothing and environmental protective goop appropriate to the season. A clean change of footwear for after the hike is a good idea during the Spring hiking season. We hike (light) rain or shine, but cancel if there is a severe weather warning, thunderstorms or heavy rain. No pets please.
No need to let me know you’re coming, just show up at REI Bloomington or the park and bring a friend! A signed trip waiver form will be required if you are not a current member.
