Hiking at McCarron’s Lake

Wed, 5:00amJun 202012
  • Max Trip Size: 12 people
Description:

Hike to the biggest Butternut in the State. Start time 7:00 p.m. at the McCarrons Lake parking lot just off Rice St (between Larpenter and Roselawn Avenue. From there we’ll walk along the Southern shore of McCarron’s looking for mute Swans on the way to the Reservoir Woods where the largest Butternut Tree in Minnesota resides. The Tree was discovered by 5th graders and certified by the MN DNR as the State’s big kahuna of Butternuts. The Woods has an impressive stand of Red Pines too. After paying our respects you’ll return to the parking lot/start and be able to boast “Yes, I’ve seen the biggest Butternut” and cross it off your bucket list. A Dairy Queen and Sports bar are nearby for post refreshments if desired. McCarrons has a swim area (optional) if you’d care to take a dip before or after, plan accordingly. The woods could be buggy.

Estimated cost: $0. Max trip size: 12.
