Devils’ Lake is Wisconsin’s biggest and most popular state park for good reason, and we will have a private group camping area for 4 nights (Friday- Tuesday)! You can join us for some or all of the fun!
Some highlights:
- Towering 500-foot bluffs surrounding Devil’s Lake; magnificent geological formations, including Devil’s Doorway and Balanced Rock.
- 30 miles of hiking trails, including part of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail (https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/iceagetrail)
- An off-road bike trail.
- Rock climbing the bluffs (with a permit)
- Two boat landings
- Two swimming beaches
- Paddle a canoe or kayak on Devil’s Lake (rentals available)
- SCUBA diving in Devil’s Lake
- The International Crane Foundation outside the park (https://savingcranes.org/)
- Balanced Rock Winery outside the park (https://www.balancedrockwinery.com/)
Activities will be coordinated by those on the trip.
This is a self-sufficient camping experience. Everyone needs to provide their tent, sleeping bag, etc. and their food/ cooking set up. I will share my Coleman stove for those who don’t have a stove, and others may be willing to share as well (with your own cookware) Camping gear is available for no charge at the Rover’s equipment locker. Let me know if you need help getting ahold of that.
We’ll do a group potluck on Saturday night. There are also restaurants available in the nearby town of Baraboo.
The group campsite has a capacity of 20 people, but tent space is limited, so please share tents and/or avoid extra-large tents when possible. There are flush toilets and showers at this campsite but no electricity or shelter.
A Wisconsin State Park sticker is required ($11/day, $38 annual).
You must be a Rovers member to attend this trip. A deposit of $15 is needed to hold your spot and will be used to cover campsite costs and firewood. Please send me an email to sign up or to ask questions!
