We will be flying to Las Vegas and renting cars for the week; the park is a two hour drive from LV. Expect clear skies and daytime temps 60s to 80s, nighttime temps to the mid 50s. We will be car camping at the Furnace Creek Campground, which has fire rings, picnic tables, and flush toilets! Showers and a swimming pool are available for a fee at the nearby resort. In addition to hiking, camping, stargazing, and partying, there are lots of ranger talks and sightseeing (ghost towns, old mines, volcanic craters, etc.) available.
Estimated cost is about $200 for food, lodging, and transport, plus airfare (currently about $150-$350).
All participants must be vaccinated and appropriately boosted against COVID-19 according to the CDC standards. https://www.cdc.
NOTE: The 2022 trip filled in 3 hours, so in order to level the playing field a bit, I will be instituting a lottery system for the 2023 trip, as follows: anyone who contacts me by July 31, 2022 will go into the “jar” and names will be drawn at random on August 1st. Preference will be given to those who are willing and able to reserve a campsite for us (reservation via recreation.gov website early morning on Aug 5, preferably with national park pass), and those willing to rent cars. Seven spaces will be reserved for those who have not been on a Death Valley trip before.
