See the beauty of hiking a frozen creek(s) by “IceCreeking”. Planning to hike for 1-5 hrs. Based on conditions and group. Starting on Amity creek or Lester River back. 80% of the hike is next to a road or packed trail so a person can bail out easily if not feeling it or need to leave early. I have “IceCreeked” these two rivers over 20 times and would enjoy sharing them with you.
Possibly meet afterwards for a drink and/or Banff Film Festival at the DECC.
Not for the risk aversive. Possibly some steep climbs in deep snow.
“IceCreeking” = snowshoe or hike on a river for at least 91% of the time.
Recommended equipment to consider
– hiking type poles – helps test ice, stability and get over shallow open water (ski poles work great also)
– feet – snowshoes &/or traction devices, boots resistant to water, spare socks, taller boots that cover shins for protection
– snack and drinks
Contact me if you can join me and I’ll watch for you. If you’re not a Rovers member, sign the liability waiver below as well.
I can also help coordinate/connect people to a carpool, if someone would like that option. We will start and finish at the same location, Lester Park Playground.
