Winter Camping Intro — Wild River State Park, MN

Category: Snowshoeing / Hiking, Winter Camping

Sat - SunFeb 25 - Feb 262023
  • Estimated Cost: $15
  • Max Trip Size: 6 people
Description:

If you enjoy camping in the summer, we invite you to try it out in a gentle, cooler setting. We can promise that there will be no mosquitos, no bears, and great sleeping weather. Wild River is only 1 h from the twin cities and we will be close to a standard drive-in site allowing you to bring plenty of extra gear and warm clothing.

You will of course need clothing appropriate to the expected temperatures along with a suitable sleeping bag, pad, and tent. One can nest bags and stack pads if it looks to be very cold. To help you, the Rover equipment locker has tents, sleeping bags, mats, and stoves. Let us know if you have questions about gear.

Bring snowshoes (see the equipment locker) so that you can tamp down (sinter) the snow that will be under your tent. Self supporting tents are easiest; we can tie them down to dead-man anchors. The snowshoes will also be useful to walk the trails of the park.

You need to provide your own meals. We will demonstrate how to use alcohol stoves, jet boil type stoves, and liquid-fueled whisperlites.

We will demonstrate several tents including a hot tent. There will be pulks you can use to carry in your gear or you can borrow one from the equipment locker.

Send an email if you will join us and/or have questions.

Cost will cover the camp site and wood.
