Kayak camping — Voyageurs National Park, MN

Category: Camping, Paddling

Mon - FriAug 17 - Aug 212026
  • Estimated Cost: $30
  • Deposit: $30
  • Max Trip Size: 8 people
Description:

I have reservations August 17 to 21 at Voyageurs National Park. You need a kayak at least 14 feet long. We will drive up, carpooling, Aug 16, launch Aug 17. Four nights at a wonderful campsite with sand beach landing and campsites overlooking the lake. We will do day trips based on group decisions.

This is not for beginner kayakers, and you should also have multi-day tent camping experience. In previous years I have done this with sessions building up for beginners, but family issues prevented that this year, so people will need fundamental camping and kayak skills. You must be able to do assisted rescues, both as rescuer and rescuee (if you have not done this, check with me). You must have appropriate camping gear that fits in your kayak. All participants must wear PFDs on the water. We will stay at one site with fun day paddles, hiking, and fishing if desired. Talk to me if you are interested. It is a dark sky park, and we may be able to see the tail end of the Perseid meteor shower.

Estimated cost does not include travel costs (gas, cheap overnight hotel or camping on Aug 16) or food during the trip.
