Paddle — Yellow Medicine River, MN

Category: Camping, Paddling

Fri - SunMay 10 - May 122019
  • Estimated Cost: $35
  • Max Trip Size: 3 people
Description:

Paddle Yellow Medicine River 2 hours west of Mpls.Granite Falls. I paddled the last 10 miles 2 years ago. It is a fast, technically challenging run and is very fun. 2 hours or so. I counted 28-30 class 1 rapids. 8-10 class 2. Both classes varied technically. You should have experience paddling class 2. 10 miles solid class 1-2 rapids.

Water levels were perfect 2 years ago. Not too high or low. Not navigable in low water. I expect water levels to be good next weekend. Will cancel if not good.

Hawke Creek: Called a creek but is a river by my definition. Also a 10 mile run and a blast. Fast thru bluffs with a few class 1 and 2.Beautiful river.

Will do both rivers if possible but for sure the Yellow Medicine.

***Will camp at Upper Sioux Agency State Park or the beautiful county park on the MN River.
Max.people: 3 people. 2 people in 1 tent and 1 person in 1 tent. OR:2 people with 1 person in each tent.

Coordinator(s):
