Let’s take a leisurely paddle on the St. Croix River, out of William O’Brien State Park. This will be a paddle intended for families with children of all ages, though all are welcome. We will meander through the small sandbars and islands, up river from the launch; this stretch of river is perfect for frequent stops to play in the sand, swim, stretch legs, or have a picnic. When we’re ready to head back, it will be an easy downstream float back to the launch.
Flexibility is the name of the game on this trip and we will go with the flow to make the experience fun for all, especially our youngest adventurers. All smiles and full of energy? We can stay out all day. Getting tired and had enough? We can turn back anytime. My goal is to make this trip smooth and enjoyable.
William O’Brien State Park has canoes and kayaks available for rent, or you can bring your own. The rentals are first come first served; there are no reservations. If everyone isn’t able to get a rental at the same time, there is a large picnic area to play in and we can take turns on the water. I will plan to bring a picnic lunch for myself and some lawn games for those who wish to hang out longer than just paddling.
Life jackets (PFDs) are required for all. I believe boat rentals from the park include life jackets, but cleanliness and kid’s sizes may not be guaranteed so bring your own if you have them.
If you plan to come, please fill out THIS FORM to register.
Waivers are required for all participants. If you are not a current Rover, please fill out the trip waiver below. Since children cannot be official Rovers members, you must fill out a waiver for each separate child attending. You will not be considered registered for the trip until you have filled out the registration form AND waiver.
