This is the second in a series of long(er) distance walks. Walks will be posted weekly, with a goal of preparing for future long distance end-to-end or through hikes. Please join us if you are interested in training for long-distance hikes, or if you just want to enjoy some longer local walks. Come as often, or as rarely, as you like. Be forewarned: the coordinator is a bit of an introvert, so I can’t promise a constant stream of scintillating conversation. I’m also bad at navigation.
Icy trail conditions in many parks are making me think an urban hike might be more accessible until we have better weather.
On Saturday, February 4, we will meet at the Lake Harriet Bandshell at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and then walk around Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska ONLY. Lake of the Isles will be too crazy and crowded for a big group to navigate comfortably. Free street parking is available near Lake Harriet and there is a pay lot near the Bandshell.
If you use the AllTrails app the hike is titled Chain of Lakes Loop, but we will start at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. (Walk has changed due to the Loppet). The total distance is approximately 7 miles. Approximate time to complete the route is 2-2.5 hours.
The walking path should be pretty clear, but you may want to have traction devices available, just in case. Dress in layers, bring water. Since this route is pretty flat, feel free to walk with a weighted pack if you want the extra workout. Make this walk your own, based on your training needs or interests. Please arrive on time, as I don’t hear my phone ringing when I’m outside!
