- Max Trip Size: 15 people
Please join Barry and I for a moderately paced hike of 4-5 miles in the prairie area of Murphy-Hanrehan Park in Savage, MN. We will be hiking on gravel horse trails on mostly flat surfaces passing large ponds with lots of bird life. There is drinking water (as of September 21) and a pit toilet at the trail head. We will start hiking at 10:05 so please plan to arrive on time.
Note our trailhead is NOT at the Mountain Bike Parking area on Murphy Lake Blvd, but at the Horse Camp Parking Area. If you find yourself at the MB parking area, just go south on the gravel road, following the signs to the Horse Camp, about 3 miles. The Horse Camp is on Sunset Lake Road. Park map pdf. Our starting point is number 17.
This address will get you pretty close: 9501 Sunset Lake Boulevard, Prior Lake, MN 55372. But Google puts you a little bit north. (Latitude N 44.70827 Longitude W -093.33002).
Directions from the north:
From I-35 heading south, take exit 86, just south of Buck Hill Ski Hill.
At the top of the exit ramp, turn right on County road 46 (=162nd Street/Klamath Trail) and travel 1.31 miles, through 2 stoplights to 168th Street.
Turn right on 168th Street and travel 0.8 mile through one stop sign (go straight through the stop sign; street now named Judicial Road) to 170th Street West.
Turn right on 170th Street West (a gravel road) and travel about 0.75 mile to the Horse parking lot on the left.
Please RSVP and let me know if your plans change.
Thanks,
Doug Johnson
