- Max Trip Size: 30 people
Pack up your yard games, a chair, and a cooler and get ready to make the trek all the way to the NW ’burbs to have some fun! Join us for biking, hiking, inline skating, swimming, picnic, etc. at and around Elm Creek Park Reserve. See agenda below for activities and meeting times …
For those interested in other activities, meet at the park for spontaneous bike rides, inline skating, hiking, volleyball, swimming, disc golf.
We can’t be everywhere at once, so we need people to help coordinate these other activities — just let us know what, when, and where and we’ll add it to the list. BAM, you’ve got fellow Rovers to play with outside!
Elm Creek Park Reserve has 20 miles of paved trails that also connect to Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park via the Rush Creek Regional Trail (7 miles) or Fish Lake Regional Park on the Medicine Lake Regional Trail. These trails are all in excellent condition for biking and inline skating. There are also over 30 miles of turf hiking trails an AWESOME 12+ mile mountain bike trail system, plus the new Eastman Nature Center.
Don’t forget swimwear! There’s a man-made, chlorinated, and filtered swimming pond ($4 fee) with sand beach in the park. For the kiddos, there’s a really nice playground at the recreation area as well.
If you can’t make it during the day, join us later (~5pm), for a pot-luck BBQ. Bring something to grill, something to share, and your beverage of choice. We also need people to bring grills and charcoal.
AGENDA (so far):
9:00 a.m. – Long Bike Ride (40-50 miles). Meet in the parking lot at the recreation area (near the beach). We’ll probably stop at a bar& grille for lunch, but feel free to BYOL. There may also be an ice cream stop as well!
12:00 p.m. – Shorter, Slower Bike Ride (15-20 miles). Meet by the Rovers banners at the picnic area by the swimming pond / recreation area. (Anyone want to be the point person this one? Otherwise, just show up and hike the paved trails around the park!)
1:00 p.m. – Hiking. Meet near the banners and hike the ski trails to the visitor center and back or north toward Eastman Nature Center. (Anyone want to be the point person this one? Otherwise, just show up and hike the ski trails!)
5:00 p.m. – Potuck BBQ. Look for the banners and pop-up shelter in the picnic area near the swimming pond. Bring something to grill and something to share.
Send a message to the e-group if you have another activity you’d like to organize!
