This trip has 2 phases – One for experienced climbers who want to practice setting climbs.
The 2nd part open to ‘newbs’, that is, people who have never climbed before, have limited experience or maybe haven’t climbed for some time and want to give it another go.
I expect to arrive at Taylors Falls around 4:30pm to start setting climbs up. All are welcome to either watch or practice their own set=ups. I hope to have a couple easier climbs ready to go before 6pm and we can climb until the sun goes down about 8:30 or so.
Climbers can show up no later than around 7pm to allow time to get a climb or two in for everyone.
You’ll need a MN State Parks pass and with the new system they’re implementing I highly advise you buy the Park Pass at least a day before you head up to TF as they might not be available from the park that late.
WEAR clothing that allow full range of motion (I often put my foot in my mouth) and can take some abuse. I suggest you bring a light jacket as it can be cool down by the river but forecast currently says 80 for the high.
BRING a full water bottle and maybe some ‘finger food’ snacks. The climbing is only about a city block from the parking lot so you can leave a cooler in the car and/or jackets & spare clothing. I strongly advise you DO NOT WEAR FLIP=FLOPS as you may have to cross rocky terrain.
AFTER YOU ARRIVE you should CALL ROB (NOT TEXT) and if I don’t answer, wait a few minutes and call back. I don’t hear texts and may have my hands full at the time you call. Then while you’re waiting for me – fill out the climbing permit (currently free) which you’ll find ON THE SIDE of the Kiosk that’s just to the right of the Park HQ building.
This is a day trip so Rover membership is not mandatory, however, non=members must have completed the Rover waiver no later than Thursday May 11. You will not be considered as “in” until after you’ve emailed me and given me YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER. I’ll may need your phone if plans change significantly. Also please tell me in the email if you have your own climbing gear. Rovers will provide the gear you’ll need and ALL WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A HELMET while climbing or belaying.
