Backpacking — Superior Hiking Trail-Jay Cooke SP, Duluth, MN

Category: Backpacking

Mon - TueSep 5 - Sep 62022
  • Estimated Cost: $10
  • Max Trip Size: 3 people
Description:

Overnight on the Superior Hiking Trail for a short backpack trip.  This is not a beginner trip.

Will meet at Wild Valley Road Trailhead Parking lot at 8am SHARP on Labor Day (Monday 9/5).  A shuttle van will pick us up and bring us to the 131st Avenue Trailhead (Fond du Lac).  From there we will hike into and through Jay Cooke State Park including a stop at the Visitor Center and across the Swinging Bridge.  Our day will end after a little over 12 miles and we will camp at the High Landing backpack campsite for the night overlooking the St. Louis River.  The trip will conclude the next morning with a 6 mile hike back to the cars and off for home.

This is a bit of a challenging hike with good terrain variations.  Everyone is responsible for their own equipment, meals and supplies and transportation to the shuttle pick up.  We have a lot of time so we can walk easy and enjoy all the sites and sounds.  The campsite is reserved and has enough room for 3-4  small tents or hammocks. Backpacks can be checked out through the Rovers Equipment locker. Please contact the Equipment Director to arrange a pickup.

$10 will cover the shared cost of shuttle and campsite

Coordinator(s):
