Bike Camping trip to William O’Brien State Park—June 3-5, 2022
The first weekend in June is Bike Travel Weekend, Adventure Cycling Association’s effort to get more people to try “one or two-night bike adventures.” I’m inviting Rovers to join me in travel to William O’Brien SP, located on the St. Croix River at Scandia, MN. https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00283#homepage
O’Brien has prairie, woodland, and riverside hiking trails, a swimming beach, and watercraft for rent. We’ll rendezvous at Como Regional Park in Saint Paul, then take a scenic 32-mile ride to the park, largely along the Gateway Trail. https://goo.gl/maps/J6bCjmjWcnZ6gx3D6
I’ve reserved a group campsite, which can accommodate 35 people. For those who would like to join us, but not bike, the camping reservation allows parking for 5 vehicles. Since this is a self-supported trip, I’m suggesting everyone be responsible for their own meals, so no one is lugging big pots, etc., but am open to discussion on this. There is a small market in Marine on St. Croix, just a few miles south of the park, if you would rather not carry all of your food the entire distance.
Camping fee is $107. Your portion of that will be dependent on how many people participate. No park entrance fees for bikes! Food (unless we choose to switch to communal meals) is your expense.
