Sierras Backpacking trip — Sierras Inyo National Forest, CA

Category: Hiking, Summer Trips, Camping

Mon - SunAug 3 - Aug 92015
  • Deposit: $50
  • Max Trip Size: 6 people
Description:

We will be flying into Fresno on Friday night or Saturday morning, picking up two cars (we need to do a shuttle), and driving to Bishop to pick up our permit, we will then head towards South Lake to get to a higher elevation to camp for the night. On Sunday we will get up early and do a shuttle to leave one car at North Lake (our exit) and start the hike at South Lake. Sunday and Monday will be long days of about 12 miles and a pass to go over. We will try to get to Sapphire Lake for Monday night and stay there for one or two days to get to enjoy Evolution Valley. When we start to backpack again we will be off trail and will stay off trail for at least 3 days. We will be going over a fairly tough pass with interesting scree slopes. We will hike out to North Lake on Saturday afternoon and after a shuttle drive back to Fresno for the night. This is an advanced trip, you will need to feel comfortable carrying a pack over rough terrain and being off trail. You will need to be able to navigate with a map and compass. We should get some incredible scenery and pristine camping.
