Backpacking — Superior Hiking Trail, MN

Trip FullCategory: Backpacking, Camping

Fri - MonJun 10 - Jun 132022
  • Estimated Cost: $10.00
  • Deposit: $10.00
  • Max Trip Size: 6 people
Description:

Join us for a 4 day, 3 night backpack on the Superior Hiking Trail! Martin Road is the start of the “traditional thru-hike”, just north of Duluth.  This section of the SHT is mostly level and non-technical.  Some camping/backpacking experience recommended.

We will meet in Two Harbors for lunch on June 10th and either carpool or shuttle to stage return vehicles at Rossini Road…and then get on the trail.  Our longest day will be ~13 miles. We will camp at group SHT backcountry sites on June 10th, 11th, 12th and will return (with a stop for lunch in Two Harbors again?) on the 13th.

Itinerary:

Day 1-Martin Road to White Pine, 6 miles

Day 2-White Pine to Sucker River, 13.2 miles

Day 3-Sucker River to Big Bend, 10 miles

Day 4-Big Bend to Rossini Trailhead, 2.9 miles

Everyone will be responsible for their own trail food but will coordinate camp kitchen gear beforehand. We are hoping to get this trip in before blackfly season starts in earnest, but bring the bug spray just in case!

Trip cost will depend on whether or not we are able to carpool to start/end location, or if we need to schedule a shuttle.  A $10 deposit holds your spot and will be returned if we do not use a shuttle. Payment details after you sign up.

We will have a zoom meeting to discuss final details about the trip and answer any questions you may have.
