Each fall, thousands of sandhill cranes migrate south via various wetlands including Crex Meadows in Wisconsin. At this time of year there are usually thousands of cranes gathering there! Cranes spend their days in nearby farm fields and return to the wetland each evening in the hour before sunset.
This is a free event organized by the Friends of Crex, so you need to register with them here. Please register as soon as possible because there are a limited number of spots. Also let us know when you register. We will plan to organize carpooling from the visitors’ center to the wetlands for the tour. Also, we can facilitate people organizing carpooling to the visitors’ center.
If you are going on the Osprey Wilds trip starting the next day you could always get a hotel room up in the area to save driving home and back. There are a number of hotels in Hinckley available.
We could also figure out somewhere to have dinner afterwards if people want to.
Non-Rovers members are welcome but need to sign the waiver below.
Please email us if you plan on attending or if you have any questions.
