Voyageurs NP Winter Trek – Cruiser Lake Trail

Description:

Visit Minnesota’s national park in winter!! Days will be lengthening and temps will warm a bit as we set off towards Canada from the Ash River Visitor center. Trip will leave Thurs and we’ll spend 3 days and cover 15 miles or so.

Current Itinerary (subject to change once the group is formed):

  • Thursday – Leave a.m. and set camp at the Ash River Campground (State Forest) before nightfall.
  • Friday – Cross Kabetogama Lake and bush whack across a small peninsula to Lost Lake Bay. Find a place to set camp there or go more inland if we’re up to it. (3-5 miles).
  • Saturday – Day hike the Cruiser Lake Trail system on the Kabetogama peninsula. How far we head in depends on conditions of the trail and the group. It’s about 7 miles to the northern terminus of the trail From Lost Lake Bay. Return to camp (5-10 miles).
  • Sunday – Break camp, morning side hike and return. In the car by 3:00p.m. for a reasonable time home (3-7 miles).

Snowshoes or skis with backpacks and pulks. Appropriate winter gear a MUST (we’ll do a gear check). Winter camping experience highly preferred. Max group size 6. Estimated cost: Gas and food. Deposit: None. Max trip size: 6.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Membership is required on overnight trips (except for Extravaganza and Border Route Trail work trips).

It is the responsibility of both the trip coordinators and the participants to discover and share information related to each others’ experience and capabilities regarding trip-related activities and responsibilities.

It is also club policy that waiver forms be signed by all people participating in Rover events.
