Wild River and the St. Croix in the Fall

Fri - SunSep 30 - Oct 22011
  • Estimated Cost: $7
  • Deposit: $7
Description:

Experience the beauty of the “wild and scenic” St. Croix River valley and the prairies of Wild River in the fall! Join me for my usual trio of hiking, biking, and camping (and more)! We have a group site at Wild River State Park. Stay for the weekend and participate in the Oak Planting in Franconia on Saturday morning, bike (to Stillwater or on the Gandy Dancer Trail?), paddle the St. Croix, hike at Wild River or Interstate State Parks, visit St. Croix Falls’ Autumnfest and the Franconia Sculpture Park. Food is “on your own” with a potluck on Saturday night. We’ll provide a couple of stoves and some basic pots and pans and a dishpan for cleaning up. (If you can bring a grill or a tarp, please let me know.) You bring your food, snacks, beverages, plates/utensils, lawn chair, and camping gear. Tents, sleeping bags, and other gear are available at no cost from the Rovers cage, but you will need to make arrangements with the cage coordinator to reserve and pick up. Rovers membership is required for this overnight trip. Beginners are welcome. Five spaces reserved till September 17 for new members who have joined in the past year. We’ll arrange carpooling as the trip gets closer. Sorry, no dogs. For more info, see the Midwest Weekends articles: St. Croix in the Fall and Taylors Falls. Estimated cost: $7.50 per night + gas/food/park sticker. Deposit: $7.50 per night. Max trip size: 18.
