What would you do if you were on a remote backcountry trip and someone became ill or injured? Wilderness First Aid is First Aid more than an hour from medical assistance. As a result it means assessing the person’s ability to remain on the trip or need for more medical assistance. This means making decisions about evacuation, and also caring for the person while helping them out or waiting for emergency response. Tom O’Neal, our instructor, is a Wilderness First Responder and Trainer for Boy Scouts, Rovers, and Inland Sea Kayakers over many years. He also is a bike medic for events, including the Twin Cities Marathon.
The class will go from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. It will involve a number of hands on activities. Participants must be Rover members at the time of registration and at the time of the class.
