Winter Camping — Crosby Manitou State Park, Minnesota North Shore

Category: Winter Trips, Winter Camping

Sun - MonMar 5 - Mar 62017
  • Estimated Cost: $20
  • Max Trip Size: 6 people
Description:

We will travel 1/4 mile into Crosby-Manitou State Park and camp at Benson Lake. This is considered a backcountry park and the Manitou river gorge day trip is very nice looking but steep, requiring snowshoes however there are other untracked ski trails too. I’m going to try fishing for a lake/brook trout hybrid called splake. This short trip into the campsite would be a good choice for a person to move from car camping skills to a backcountry camping trip, talk to me about equipment you’d need. March is a nicer time to winter camp because there is more daylight and generally more moderate temperatures. Joint outing with the North Star Sierra Club.
