    Come and canoe with us on Saturday, July 22. We will put in at Taylor’s Falls and paddle to Osceola (about 3 hours). This would be a perfect trip for a newbie canoeist, or a family, or anyone who wants to enjoy the sun and wildlife and easy current of the beautiful and clean St. Croix River.

    Summer Trips Camping Hiking

    We’ve got lodging and camping reserved and a wonderful itinerary planned for hiking and exploring the Pacific Northwest (Washington). Our focus will be hiking and photography; we’ll do a day trip to the San Juan Islands for some whale watching, exploring the rainforests and beaches of Olympic National Park, hiking in Mount Rainier National Park, and a short backpacking trip to Gem Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

    “Wonders of the Night Sky” Star gazing & Camping — Forest History Center, Grand Rapids, MN

    Join meterorologist Mike Lynch and astronomers to view the wonders of the night sky on Saturday. The next day, we plan to head to Duluth, have lunch, then make our way up to Grand Marais where people can camp or stay in a hotel. Kayaking is an option.

I have a reservation for Sunday night at Branched Oak State Recreation Area in Nebraska just outside the path of totality.

We have the entire Hostel to ourselves, which is across the park road from the lake where you can rent bikes, kayaks, and canoes (or bring your own). Games, laughter, and/or music around the campfire in the evenings or a short hike over the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River are likely.

    Want to try backpacking for the first time? Maybe you’ve been out once and want to solidify your skills? Then this trip is for you! On the Superior Hiking Trail.

    We’ll plan this trip together from selecting the route and campsites to figuring out meals and logistics. In the process, you’ll learn how to plan a trip; choose the right gear, clothing and food; pack a backpack, navigate and camp in the backcountry; filter water, hang a bear bag, and cook with a backpacking stove; and train to get in shape for the challenge.

    There is a NEW Camp at CALVIN COOLIDGE GROUP AREA. Pay only for nights you stay there. Climbers must have a predetermined climbing partner to climb with. Area offers trad & sport climbing at all levels of ability. Devils Tower is 2 hours away for those who want to ‘side-trip’ to climb there.

    NON-CLIMBERS WELCOME as there are many hiking trails in the area and Wind Cave and Badlands National Parks and Jewel Cave National Monument.

    Join us for camping, hiking, biking & star gazing at Theodore Roosevelt NP!

    We’ll spend the first few nights in the South Unit, near Medora, hiking & biking during the day, and attending the Dakota Nights Star Party during the evening.

    Members of the Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) will be partnering with park staff to give night-time showings of stars, planets and deep sky objects through large telescopes. To show their appreciation, the park is waving entrance and group camp fees in the south unit for MAS and Rovers!!

    Boats, Bikes, Boots, and Beer: Canal Boating in England — Cheshire, England

    This is a two-week canal boat trip in the county of Cheshire, in west central England, near the Welsh border. The canal boat will be our moving base of operations, a sort of floating RV with a kitchen, bathrooms, showers and bedrooms. Each day we will cruise down the canal, through the lovely English countryside, for about 4-5 hours, leaving us six to eight hours each day to explore scenic villages, ancient castles and churches, and dramatic overlooks.
