    Summer Trips Camping Paddling

    The first night (Thursday, 29 June), we will camp at East Bearskin Lake campground so we can rise early the next morning, get our entry permit, and begin paddling on Poplar Lake. We will travel through Lizz, Caribou, Horseshoe, Gaskin, and Winchell lakes to a base campsite. Day trips will be taken to surrounding lakes and may include Pup, Cliff, and maybe even Brule,

    Join us on a long holiday weekend to explore the Keweenaw Peninsula. There are tons of mountain biking trails as well as hiking, sightseeing, beaches, lighthouses, etc. We’ll head up Friday after work, stay at a motel along the way then head to Copper Harbor where we’ll check out the trails and camp at Lake Fanny Hooe two nights, then move on to the Houghton area for two more days of riding, camping, and exploring.

    Camping and conducting a survey for dragonflies and damselflies at Kilen Woods State Park in southwest Minnesota, in coordination with the Minnesota Dragonfly Society. The survey will result with a list of dragonflies and damselflies for the Park as well as add to our knowledge of those species.

    I am planning a trip to Bayfield for the weekend of July 21-23. I will rent the house that Rovers use in the winter and have room for 6-10 people depending on the mix of singles/couples. There should be biking on Madeline Island, but people are free to do whatever activities they enjoy-hiking, kayaking, shopping, wine tasting. Bayfield has a lot going on in the summertime.

    Come and canoe with us on Saturday, July 22. We will put in at Taylor’s Falls and paddle to Osceola (about 3 hours). This would be a perfect trip for a newbie canoeist, or a family, or anyone who wants to enjoy the sun and wildlife and easy current of the beautiful and clean St. Croix River.

    Want to try backpacking for the first time? Maybe you’ve been out once and want to solidify your skills? Then this trip is for you! On the Superior Hiking Trail.

    We’ll plan this trip together from selecting the route and campsites to figuring out meals and logistics. In the process, you’ll learn how to plan a trip; choose the right gear, clothing and food; pack a backpack, navigate and camp in the backcountry; filter water, hang a bear bag, and cook with a backpacking stove; and train to get in shape for the challenge.

    There is a NEW Camp at CALVIN COOLIDGE GROUP AREA. Pay only for nights you stay there. Climbers must have a predetermined climbing partner to climb with. Area offers trad & sport climbing at all levels of ability. Devils Tower is 2 hours away for those who want to ‘side-trip’ to climb there.

    NON-CLIMBERS WELCOME as there are many hiking trails in the area and Wind Cave and Badlands National Parks and Jewel Cave National Monument.

    Join us for camping, hiking, biking & star gazing at Theodore Roosevelt NP!

    We’ll spend the first few nights in the South Unit, near Medora, hiking & biking during the day, and attending the Dakota Nights Star Party during the evening.

    Members of the Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) will be partnering with park staff to give night-time showings of stars, planets and deep sky objects through large telescopes. To show their appreciation, the park is waving entrance and group camp fees in the south unit for MAS and Rovers!!

    Boats, Bikes, Boots, and Beer: Canal Boating in England — Cheshire, England

    This is a two-week canal boat trip in the county of Cheshire, in west central England, near the Welsh border. The canal boat will be our moving base of operations, a sort of floating RV with a kitchen, bathrooms, showers and bedrooms. Each day we will cruise down the canal, through the lovely English countryside, for about 4-5 hours, leaving us six to eight hours each day to explore scenic villages, ancient castles and churches, and dramatic overlooks.
