Did you know that we have a National Park located in the Twin Cities Metro Area?
From Dayton, MN to just past Hastings, the 72 mile stretch of the Mississippi river, as it winds through the Twin Cities Metro area, makes up the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. AKA: MISS. Come& join us over a series of day trips, as we explore portions of this National Park that is right in our back yards!
First in the series will be a hike at Coldwater Spring. Sunday, January 22, 1- 3 PM. Join us as we explore this historic site, which was the camp for the soldiers who built Fort Snelling. We will walk through the interpretive site& then hike to Fort Snelling and /or explore the woods around the park& the river and return via the Mississippi River Trail.
Directions: Highway 55 / Hiawatha Avenue to East 54th Street. Go East on 54th& turn right (south) on South Minnehaha Park Drive. (look for sign that points towards Coldwater Spring.) When the road opens up,& there is a fork in the road, veer left towards the National Park sign& parking lot. There is a small parking lot w/ a 2 hour limit. Metered parking is available along South Minnehaha Park Drive. This park is off of the Mississippi River Trail, so you can bike or ski here to join our hike!
