- Max Trip Size: 20 people
Note that this is replacing our original trip to the Chisago Lakes area on the same date (Aug 5)
Cathy Perme and Kris Felbeck are co-leading a day trip on the upper Mississippi River on Saturday, August 5. We will meet in Clearwater, MN (about an hour’s drive from the Twin Cities, off of Interstate 94) at 11 am to put in at Clear Waters Outfitting. We will paddle about 8 miles down river, enjoying a seldom seen part of the Mississippi, taking out at Snuffy’s Landing. We intend to stop to swim and snack at least once or twice – there are a number of nice sandbars along this stretch of the river.
This is a family friendly and beginner friendly trip.
Because this is a big fishing event weekend, Clear Waters Outfitting is short on boats. We have reserved four single kayaks and two tandem canoes. The kayaks cost $41 per person, and the tandem canoes cost $31 per person. If you intend to rent, you need to confirm with us by this Friday, July 28.
If you plan to bring your own boat, Clear Waters Outfitting will shuttle you back to the put-in, along with your boat, for $15. Again, they need to know ahead of time.
The trip should take about 3 – 4 hours, and we will adjourn to a bar/cafe in either Clearwater or Monticello afterwards. You can plan on being back in the Cities by 6 – 7 pm.
This part of the Mississippi is now categorized as a Wild and Scenic River, which is the same as the St Croix. It has great fishing and birdwatching – a good example of what improvements can be made when a city (St Cloud) gets serious about improving their water quality.
