This year at 13th Annual Summer in the Sticks, we’ll be celebrating Jodi’s 40th birthday! Join us at Elm Creek Park Reserve for biking, hiking, inline skating, horseshoes, swimming, pot luck BBQ, and more!
If you’re willing to make the trek all the way to the NW ‘burbs to this terrific park in Dayton/Maple Grove, meet at the horse camp off French Lake Road, and we’ll start there. Meet at 9:00 a.m. for a road bike ride (40-50 miles, route TBD), or later for other activities (e.g., shorter bike rides, inline skating, hiking, volleyball, swimming, disc golf) . People willing to coordinate other activities would be appreciated*, otherwise just show up and decide amongst yourselves when you get there.
If you can’t make it during the day, join us later (~5pm), for a pot-luck BBQ. Bring something to grill and something to share. We need people to bring grills and charcoal (gas grills welcome too).
Elm Creek Park Reserve has 20 miles of paved trails that also connect to Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park via the Rush Creek Regional Trail (7 miles) or Fish Lake Regional Park on the Medicine Lake Regional Trail. These trails are all in excellent condition for biking and inline skating. There are also over 30 miles of turf hiking trails and a brand-new 12.7-mile mountain bike trail system.
Don’t forget swimwear! There’s a man-made, chlorinated, and filtered swimming pond ($2 fee) with sand beach in the park. For the kiddos, there’s a brand-new playground at the recreation area as well.
Pets are allowed on designated trails only, we prefer not to have them at the BBQ/camping area unless they are tied up and quiet.
