Description:

**This trip has been cancelled.**

The Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument has colorful sandstone canyons that meet the Missouri River and then rise up to a prairie full of wildlife. The river itself, especially the White Cliffs section, is little changed since Lewis and Clark came through in 1805 describing ‘scenes of visionary enchantment.’ The plan for this trip is to paddle 3 days and hike 1 day the river between Coal Banks Landing and Judith Landing, about 47 total river miles…the paddling is easy -‘floatable’ in 3 days! Hiking may be more moderate, to the top of the canyon, perhaps to a place called ‘Hole in the Wall.’ There are some established group campsites along the route, and some primitive campsites too. See the blm.gov/programs/national-conservation-lands website for more info.

The nearest large city is Great Falls. The put-in at Coal Banks Landing is a two-day drive from Mpls. Flying in/out of Great Falls may be another option. There’s an outfitter we can rent canoes/kayaks from, plus they can also do a shuttle (all for a fee of course, see adventureboundcanoe.com for more info). Or we could haul our boats and gear and do shuttles etc ourselves.
