Forests provide food and habitat for wildlife, and improve air and water quality. (Plus they’re really great places to hike!) However, these important areas are being compromised by invasive species. Join us to improve one small corner of our earth by removing buckthorn at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve.
What will we be doing? We’ll be making a difference by removing buckthorn seedlings in a woodlot that has been identified as a high-quality forest. What is the impact? Removing the buckthorn will help our native plants to thrive.
Wear boots for possibly muddy sections of the trail to the woodlot, work gloves, hat, and layers for cooler weather, and bring water and a snack (if desired). Optional — If you want to stay for lunch and a fall hike, bring your lunch, too!
Meet at the horse parking lot at 9:30 a.m. (This address will get you pretty close: 9501 Sunset Lake Boulevard, Prior Lake, MN 55372. 9501 is what’s on the Three Rivers sign, but Google puts you a little bit north. ) (Latitude N 44.70827 Longitude W -093.33002).
Directions from the north:
From I-35W heading south, take exit 86, just south of Buck Hill Ski Hill
At the top of the exit ramp, turn right on County road 46 (=162nd Street/Klamath Trail) and travel 1.31 miles, through 2 stoplights to 168th Street
Turn right on 168th Street and travel 0.8 mile through one stop sign (go straight through the stop sign; street now named Judicial Road) to 170th Street West.
Turn right on 170th Street West (a gravel road) and travel about 0.75 mile to the Horse parking lot on the left.
Meet at Mike Sweet’s vehicle: Red Subaru Outback
