Do you know what to do if you are on a 5 day trip in the BWCA, or in another inaccessible area and one of your group becomes sick or injured? Wilderness First Aid is defined as First Aid more than an hour from help. At times it may be days and many portages from help. You have to attend to the person, but also make decisions about continuing, or evacuating or calling for rescue. You also need to care for this person during this time and be aware of any changes in their condition. You may improvise some of your gear in caring for the person.
This is a two day (not overnight), 16 hour course with Tom O’Neal. Tom has done this for Rovers in the past and is an experienced Wilderness First Responder who has trained Boy Scouts, and other outdoor groups. He is also a trained bike medic, who works the Twin Cities Marathon and other events. Participants who complete the course will receive a 2 year certification. It will be held in the Twin Cities Metro area. It will be very hands-on with scenarios. It will teach participants a way of thinking about and assessing situations.
You must be a MN Rovers member to participate in this.
