Fall BWCAW Trip

Fri - WedSep 6 - Sep 112013
  • Estimated Cost: $16
  • Max Trip Size: 3 people
Description:

This will be a fast & light trip. I’m planning minimal gear, breaking camp daily (weather permitting) and trying to visit as many lakes, campsites and portages as possible. It will likely be a pretty physically demanding trip. Though the feedback that I’ve received indicates that the portages are “not bad” we will still be logging miles.

I have Kevlar canoes to accommodate 1-2 more people as well as most of the group gear we’d need. You would need sleeping bag, pad, personal gear & your own food. Due to this being last-minute, I am not going to try to coordinate group meals.

Trip Itinerary:

Friday: Leave for Duluth (I’m in Chippewa Falls) Pick up permit at Duluth Pack Travel north to Grand Marais, and up the Gunflint Bunk Fri. nite at the Tuscarora Lodge bunkhouse

Saturday: Put in at Ham Lake, (Entry Point 50) paddle to Cross Bay Lake & check in at the ranger station Continue south to Long Island Lake Camp first night at Long Island Lake

Sunday – Tuesday: Visit; Muskeg, Kiskadinna, Omega, Hensen, Pillsbery, Allen, Gaskin & Winchell lakes. Return to Long Island Lake via Omega, Kiskadinna & Muskeg. Camp at Long Island Lake Tues. night.

Wednesday: Paddle to take out at Ham Lake. (Itinerary subject to change due to weather or the needs of the group) Cutoff for registering is Sunday, September 2.

Estimated cost: $16 plus your own food, gas. Deposit: 0. Max trip size: 3.
