Pacific Crest Trail, California Section L — Donner Pass – Sierra City, CA

Trip Full Wait List OpenCategory: Backpacking

Sun - FriAug 20 - Aug 252023
  • Estimated Cost: $600
  • Deposit: $100
  • Max Trip Size: 5 people
Description:

Join me for a mini-PCT experience!  This section is 38 miles, with elevation ranging between 4,000 and 8,000 feet.  There is a 14-mile water carry, otherwise water sources look good for this section.  Bear canister is not required for this section (although we will do our part to be bear safe/LNT).  A California Fire Permit is required for the use of a backpacking stove.  Dates are August 20-August 25, providing 2 days for traveling and 4 days on trail.

If we finish in 3 days, we will have an extra day for enjoying local culture and/or a day hike.  Flights will be through Reno, Nevada.  To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, backpacking experience (10-15 miles a day) and physical fitness is required.  Temps will range from around 40 degrees at night to low 80’s during the day (give or take a few degrees).  If you are interested, call or email by March 10.  Group size, including myself, limited to 5.  Once we have our group set, we will lock in on our flights, car rental, etc. around March 15.   An estimated cost of $600 includes flights and car rental.  Planning will be a group effort, and if you’d like to co-coordinate that would be awesome!  Let’s get a Tramily together and do this!
