Reconnaissance Hike & Deadfall Sweep — BRT Pigeon River Section

Tue - SunMay 6 - May 112014
  • Estimated Cost: $65
  • Deposit: $50
  • Max Trip Size: 6 people
Description:

We invite you to join us on the Pigeon River Section of the BRT for the start of the spring mechanized trail clearing season. We’re looking to put together a two to six person crew to drive up on Tuesday afternoon, camp at the McFarland Lake campground and do a recon hike & deadfall sweep from the east BWCAW boundary at Little John Lake through to the BRT eastern trailhead at the Otter Lake Rd. Swamp River bridge. Due to the rugged nature of the BRT and the distances between access points you need to be in good to excellent physical condition.

The trip cost will be based on the number of meals that we provide plus car-pool expenses. Meal costs normally average $10 to $12 per day including all meals except for dinner on the drive up and dinner on the drive home.

A larger weekend crew, which will be arriving late Thursday night and and returning on Sunday evening, will concentrate on clearing the brushy areas identified by the recon crew.

More details will be provided in mid-March after the Heston’s X/C ski trip. If you’re interested, RSVP via the Friends of the Border Route Trail Meetup Group site now and you can firm up in late March. Please feel free to get in touch with me via e-mail if you have any questions before then.

Estimated cost: $65. Deposit: $50. Max trip size: 6.
