    Spring Birding Walks 2016 — Various, MN

    If you are interested in birds or just interested in finding out if you might be interested, join one or more of the spring birding walks. The walks are on Wednesdays, beginning April 27 with the last scheduled one on Wednesday, June 1. No experience is required, but experienced birders are welcome and encouraged to come and help.

    Spring 2016 BRT Wilderness Trail Clearing — Gunflint District BWCAW, Minnesota

    Summer Trips Trail Maintenance

    The wilderness sections of the Border Route Trail run above and along several border lakes and provide spectacular overlooks to those lakes. Trail clearing consists of removing brush and downed trees and in the wilderness is done with hand tools: crosscut and other hand saws, loppers, and scythes. All paddling equipment and clearing tools will be provided.

    Garlic Mustard Pull and Harvest — Silverwood Park, MN

    Social and Special Events Conservation Day Trips

    The MN Rovers will participate in a Three Rivers Park District Garlic Mustard Pull and Harvest at Silverwood Park. Meet at the Silverwood Visitor Center at 9:00 a.m. We will harvest garlic mustard from 9:00 - 12:00 noon, then head to the Silverwood Visitor Center for a beverage , snack, and conversation at their cafe.

    Boundary Waters Fundraiser — A-Mill Artist Lofts, St. Anthony Main, Minnesota

    Social and Special Events Conservation Social Events

    This is a BWCA fundraiser for The Campaign to save the Boundary Waters, led by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness. It is part of a national campaign to permanently protect the BWCA and its wilderness-edge
    communities from proposed sulfide-ore mining. It’s being held at A-Mill Artist Lofts in Minneapolis at St. Anthony Main from 6:30 to 8:30.

    Spring Extravaganza — Wild River State Park, MN

    Summer Trips Bicycling Camping Climbing Hiking Paddling Social and Special Events Official Event

    Registration for the Extravaganza has begun! The event runs from Friday late afternoon until Sunday afternoon and will be held at Wild River State Park on the St. Croix River near North Branch. The Extravaganza is an opportunity for non-members or newer members to learn more about the club, along with seasoned MN Rover members! There will be organized activities for all levels of participation, from beginner to experienced. This event happens in the spring and fall and is the only overnight trip that you do not need to be a Rovers member to attend.

    Cost is anywhere from Free to $20 based on what you can do that weekend. You are not registered for camping or for meals until we receive your payment. See the Trip Details for lots more information!

    2016 Rovers Astronomy Weekend — Wildcat Mountain State Park, Ontario, WI

    Summer Trips Bicycling Camping Hiking Paddling Other Summer Activities

    During the day go hiking in the park, biking along the historic Sparta/Elroy bike trail, birding from the viewpoint and paddling along the nearby Kickapoo River. We will plan a group paddle on Sat. June 4th. There may also be rock climbing at Devil’s Lake state park (an hour away). At night, join members of the Minnesota Astronomical Society to observe the stars and planets with large telescopes from two group campsites atop Wildcat Mountain. This year’s focuses will be Mars and Saturn, as well as various deep-sky objects and comets. When clear, we will be limiting camp fires to maximize sky transparency.

    Make the trek for an AMAZING hiking experience at Lake Elmo Park Reserve in Lake Elmo, MN. The HIKE will be a 6.3 mile loop (2 hour max. time) around Lake Margaret—Brown’s Pond & swinging past the southern portion of Lake Elmo. We will see cranes, deer, turkey, various songbirds — and perhaps raptors!

    4th of July Group Camping Weekend — Gooseberry Falls State Park, MN

    Camp at Pebble Creek group camp site (the only group site along the shore of Lake Superior!) at Gooseberry Falls State Park for the Fourth of July Weekend. Group is limited to 30 people, and 5 spots will be held until June 15 for new members who have joined in 2016.

There will be 4 days of folk music on 10 stages in a beautiful provincial park just outside of Winnipeg with hiking and a beach.The 4-day ticket includes the admission and camping. The performers will announced on March 10 and Early Bird tickets go on sale March 11.
