    Hiking, biking, and paddling at beautiful Itasca State Park. We have the entire hostel to ourselves…..Games, laughter and/or music around the campfire in the evenings or a short night hike over the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River are likely. Five spots will be saved until August 1 for Rovers joining in 2015.

    Summer Trips Camping Paddling

    Fall is a great time to visit the BWCA! We will meet in Duluth on Wed. the 9th around noon, and visit Duluth Pack to pick up permits & do a little shopping. Then it’s north along scenic HWY 61 to Grand Marais. Cell phones go quiet as we head up the Gunflint Trail to the Tuscarora Lodge, our bunkhouse for the night. Dinner is at the Trail Center Lodge. We will exit the BWCA Monday, and head home after showers & a nice lunch.

    Winter’s coming! Meet the Minnesota Rovers — then join us outdoors! Autumn is just around the corner, and there is no better time to start planning your Fall & Winter getaways! The Minnesota Rovers, a Twin Cities-based outdoor recreation club, organizes low-cost opportunities for you to play outside — locally, regionally, and more.

    7:00 p.m. in the Expedition Room of Midwest Mountaineering. (Midwest Mountaineering validates parking in the lot behind the store.) A new video presentation will be shown during the meeting.

    This is also a Discount Day at Midwest Mountaineering. 15% Discount Cards will be available in the Expedition Room on Sept. 10th. (Good until 9pm that night excluding canoes, kayaks, DeLorme, and GoPro.)

    Cycling the Lake Wobegon Trail - Fourth Annual ! — Birch Lake State Forest, Minnesota

    Fourth annual outing to the Birch Lake State Forest and cycling on the Lake Wobegon Trail, with the infamous flat hills and hopefully fall foliage. Cycling outings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with lunch stops in small town cafes.

    Superior Hiking Trail - Finland to Oberg Mountain — North Shore, MN

    Summer Trips Camping Hiking

    Hike a 45-50 mile section of the Superior Hiking Trail as peak fall color begins on the North Shore. We will hike between the Finland Rec Center and Oberg Mountain trailheads. Highlights include Crosby-Manitou
    SP, the Cross, Caribou, and Temperance Rivers, and Carlton and Britton Peaks.

    Hike-Bike-Kayak/Canoe Wisconsin Ice Age Chippewa Morraine Area — New Auburn WI, WI - Wisconsin

    Summer Trips Bicycling Hiking Paddling

    Arriving on Friday at 6:30 pm at Fat Boy’s Resturant (dinner on your own). Saturday, hiking and kayaking if you bring a kayak. After breakfast we go to Chippewa Ice Age Interpretive Center for the 4.5 miles trail of glacial lakes and hills. For those that want to kayak/canoe on the morraine lakes, they will bring their kayaks and kayak then or after the hike. Sunday, hike/bike in the Blue Hills, a little known Shangri-La about 30 minutes from the cabin, close to Bruce WI.

    Raptor Release by the U of M Raptor Center! This a great event for families with kids, grandkids, or nieces and nephews. Rovers without kids will enjoy watching these majestic rehabilitated birds return to
    the wild too! The release times are 11:30 and 2:00, typically three birds each time, including hawks, falcons, and eagles.

This is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in Minnesota wildlife, photographers or families to learn more about the predators in our state.

    Buckthorn Pull for an adopted Woodlot — Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve, Minnesota

    Social and Special Events Conservation Day Trips

    Help remove buckthorn from one of the nicest natural plant communities remaining at Murphy-Hanrehan Park (SW of Buck Hill), as determined by the Three Rivers Park District. Last year, this woodlot was personally adopted in an effort to conserve its quality status by removing buckthorn. A couple days before the event, Three Rivers Park District field crew will cut buckthorn trees and larger saplings. On October 12, we will make piles of the cuttings, and pull smaller stems and seedlings in the more heavily infested areas. The event will start at 10am and end no later than 1pm.
