Becoming an Outdoor Adventurer with the Minnesota Rovers — Midwest Mountaineering, MN

Come hear stories from Rudi Hargesheimer’s perspective about his early outdoor development which was largely inspired by and done with friends in the Minnesota Rovers Outdoors Club. Back in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s much fun was had on Rovers trips all over the world: climbing, bicycling, backpacking, caving, paddling and adventuring. It was all done on the cheap and all done with great stories to be told. This show was a hit as one of last year’s 60th Anniversary of Minnesota Rovers sequence of retro-shows shown to current Rovers members. Minnesota Rovers is still going strong! Members share expenses and camaraderie on great trips, both locally and around the world. (Visit their booth at the expo!) Skiing, Snowshoeing, or Fat Biking in NW Wisconsin

Drive up to Hayward Saturday morning, get the fire going in the cabin, then ski on the south end of the Birkie trail. Sunday we’ll be participating in the Birkie Tour. If skiing isn’t your thing, there are groomed fat bike trails as well as plenty of places to snowshoe.

Accommodations: Camping or a bunk in a rustic cabin. No running water; to clean up after a long day of skiing, we’ll pay for a shower at a hotel and eat dinner at a local restuarant.

Food: Breakfast and coffee provided, bring your own lunch, beverages, and snacks.

Winter Trails Day at Fort Snelling State Park

Help others experience the joy of winter by volunteering at the Annual Winter Trails Day at Fort Snelling! Minnesota Rovers will once again assist REI and Fort Snelling staff with free activities that showcase how much fun winter can be! We will be helping visitors with snowshoes. REI said they couldn't do this without our help. Other activities will include geocaching, naturalist-led hikes, cold weather camping information, and skijoring & dogsledding information.

There is a building there with a fire pit and hot drinks if you need to warm up. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but you may volunteer for just part of that time. REI requested that we have people available from 10:30 a.m.
